A $400 million multiuse redevelopment on the former Decatur Country Club property is expected to generate $1 billion in construction activity over the next 10 to 15 years, an official said.

A massive redevelopment project in Decatur is officially moving forward after getting the green light from city leaders. ​The city just approved a $400 million project for a brand-new neighborhood, South Brook, that will completely transform the site of the Old Decatur Country Club.

The Decatur City Council has given the green light to a $400 million redevelopment that will transform the site of the former Decatur Country Club into one of the city’s largest-ever mixed-use projects. Approved unanimously Monday on a 4-0 vote, the project, known as South Brook, plans to turn roughly 80 acres in South Decatur into a walkable neighborhood featuring homes, shops, restaurants, trails, and public green spaces.

During the recent Planning Commission meeting in Decatur, Alabama, significant discussions centered around a proposed master plan for a 79.57-acre development on Country Club Road. The plan, submitted by Pugh Wright McAnally and Cook’s Property LLC, aims to create a mixed-use area at 2401 Country Club Drive.

A multi-use development on the former Decatur Country Club property that is expected to include hundreds of homes and several retailers took a step forward Thursday with the rezoning of 9.91 acres.

A Redevelopment District will be created by the city council through the adoption of an ordinance in accordance with the normal procedures providing for the adoption of amendments to the zoning ordinance.

Neighbors of the former Decatur Country Club showed up for last week’s Planning Commission meeting hoping to find out about owner Cook Properties LLC’s plans for the property but left with few answers.

The sale of the Decatur Country Club property is expected to close by the end of August, the attorneys involved in the deal said. John Brown, attorney for Cook Properties LLC, said all that remain are a title review and a survey of the property by Pugh Wright McAnally Civil Engineers. Brown and partner Tom Caddell will handle the closing.
